Hannah recaps/reviews Episode #10 of Next Food Network Star!

The episode that we have all been waiting for is finally here!  We have the final four!  The four will all come up with some ideas for their pilot, present them to Bobby, Giada, and Alton, and then give a pitch to the network (Bob and Susie!)  After that, Bob and Susie will decide which three will be making pilots and competing for the title of the next Food Network Star!

Stacey presents the idea for a show where she takes the beloved dishes of others and reinvents them to something more modern.  Stacey gave her pitch with a sad tone, which didn't sit well with Bob and Susie.  I think they liked her as a person, though, and also liked her show idea.  Damaris presents her idea for her show "Eat, Date, Love" and wants to take "bros" and teach them to cook great southern food that will help them win over girls.  "I will teach them how to make pecan pies that will make a girl cry!"  Her pitch had a fun vibe and her personality shone throughout it.  Rodney presents his show, which is, to no surprise, called "Pie Style."  His show sounds a lot like Bobby's, but he will take the signature dish of a restaurant and turn it into the pie - then others will vote for which one they like more.  Russell's idea is to go places and see a guilty pleasure of that place and then will make a guilty pleasure of his own - tying in his seven culinary sins.  Bob and Susie see him as someone who has had nine lives.

Bob and Susie are quick to decide that Damaris should make a pilot.  They also decide that they want to take a chance with Rodney since he is such a great personality.  It comes down to Russell and Stacey for the last spot.  The five voted for who they thought it should be and Alton was the deciding vote.  Ultimately, Russell was given the last spot and Stacey was eliminated from the competition.  She felt that she had grown throughout the competition, so that in itself was a win to her.  You could tell that this was her dream, though, so it's very sad to see her go.  At many points during the season, I thought that she was a lock for the final three!  No doubt she will go on to do great things with her restaurant (and probably other things too!)

With Stacey eliminated from the competition, we are left with our FINAL THREE?  Who will you vote for to be the next Food Network Star? Original Photo Credit:  Food Network

Now, who will you vote for?  Tell me in the comments below or on Twitter @theonlytrace or @AustHansWorld!  Are you still debating where you should throw your vote?  I thought about picking one to back 100%, but throughout the season, I have grown to love all three and would be happy with any of them winning.  So instead, I will give you reasons why each is a great option.  From there, maybe deciding where your vote will go will be an easier task!

The #SCDShirt of your dreams!

Summary of Russell's pilot for Guilty Pleasures:  Russell went to Bennett's, an ice cream shop.  He tried one of their most popular flavors, a sorbet, and then continued on to make his own ice cream.  He made a bacon bourbon ice cream.  The guy at the ice cream shop, and some customers, all loved the ice cream and said it definitely had a shot of making it on the menu!

  • First off, Russell is on #TeamHannah!  Clearly this should be enough to convince you.  Russell also gets great props for being a great supporter of AustHan's World!  Russell may or may not be found, at times, rocking an AustHan's World shirt.  And I definitely may be found, at times, rocking my #SCDShirt from the man, Russell, himself!
  • The fact that his pilot was centered around ice cream?!  BEYOND amazing.
  • Russell's love for bacon!  I mean, given the right circumstances, who doesn't love bacon?
  • Russell has had a great underdog story throughout the season.  As viewers, we watched the Russell roller coaster runs its course throughout the season.  No matter how many times Russell found himself at the top of the pack (or at the bottom), he never let it affect him, but instead gave him what he needed to push harder - therefore landing him a spot in the final three.
  • He has a great presence on camera.  Most people on the Food Network have a nice or overly nice vibe about them, and Russell is different than that, which is definitely intriguing to the viewer.

Summary of Damaris' pilot for Eat, Date, Love:  Damaris took a guy with very little cooking ability and taught him to make a good, simple, and southern meal that would win over the girl that he was dating and "didn't taste like plastic."  While cooking, Damaris gives tips about how we must avoid "humpy biscuits!"  After making the meal, Damaris left the guy with his girlfriend and she loved the meal.  Damaris watched the date on camera and quotes her grandmother, "The stove is not the only thing heating up the kitchen!"

  • I was able to meet Damaris back in July.  If you haven't read my recap of that event, I will tell you this:  she is just as she appears on TV.  She loves karaoke, and let's be honest, who doesn't love karaoke?!  She is very friendly and smiley!
  • Damaris has had a good run on the season.  She has very rarely been at the bottom of the pack and has shown a lot of drive and passion throughout.
  • Her personality is so lovable and translates great on camera.
  • She is a great replacement for Paula Deen on the Food Network.  After Paula's dismissal, Damaris is the perfect substitute.  Her vibe and show would be different in many ways, while still offering the southern cooking that at-home viewers love to see!
  • A show for the bros on the Food Network?!  While I am not a bro, I am supportive of this idea!  Watching guys (she even mentioned nerdy guys!) cook?  Sign me up!  Also Damaris is great at connecting with these guys which creates a fun vibe on camera and is easy to watch!
  • Damaris is also a member of #TeamHannah!

Me and the Pie Guy himself!

Summary of Rodney's pilot for Pie Style:  Rodney hit up a restaurant that is well-known for their grilled cheese.  We saw some about how their grilled cheese is made and then Rodney went on to create his pie version of the same grilled cheese.  When it comes to pie crust, "If you slap it and it feels like a baby's butt, you know it's ready to go!"  Rodney went on to mention Little House on the Prairie and win 8 of the 10 votes of the grilled cheese enthusiasts.

  • The same night that I met Damaris, I was able to meet Rodney as well.  Like with Damaris, he is exactly how you see him on TV.  The way he acts on camera when he meets people is a lot like how it is when you first meet him in person.  Super talkative.  He also has a lot of love for what he does, which is pies, and they are beyond delicious!
  • He has a good niche.  Not a lot of people are on the pie scene and if anyone is equipped to lead the pie revolution, it is Rodney.  He is great at what he does and that can't be denied.
  • His quirky comments on camera are beyond entertaining.  Pulling Little House on the Prairie comments out of thin air?  Who does that?  But another question, who doesn't love those moments?
  • His personality is confident and fun.  He is full of good stories to tell, I'm sure, and I think those would be told on his show, if he were to get one.
  • While Rodney is on #TeamAustin, there is still a lot to like about him.  I know I made a lot of jabs at him in my past reviews/recaps, but I truly do think his presence on the Food Network would be positive.  Sometimes you just want to sit down for a fun show to watch and he could definitely provide us, the viewers, with that!

Hopefully you read this and formed a better opinion of who you want to win.  I think my 10 votes will differ from day to day, but I will tell you this- today I gave 5 votes to one, 4 to another, and 1 to the other.  Voting is open until Wednesday, July 7th, so be sure to vote, vote, vote!  You can vote HERE!  (10 times a day!)

You can also call in votes to higher your voting power, the numbers are:

Russell:
855-54-STAR-3
(855-547-8273)

And as always, I will tell my favorite moment of the episode.  I have to give the best moment of this episode to Damaris.  After her bangin' intro was filmed, Guy Fieri (the mentor) claimed that it was "MONEY! MONEY! MONEY!" and went on to slap her hand with all of his power.  Damaris jokingly called for a medic and then said "J! K!"  I found this moment to be incredibly endearing and hilarious.  Thanks, Food Network, for showing it!
