Hannah recaps episode #2 of 'Worst Cooks in America!'

After the first episode aired last week, I fell in love with ‘Worst Cooks in America!’  My love for it could almost be put up on the shelf in my heart where ‘King of the Nerds’ resides.  That’s how much I love this show going into the second episode.  The episode starts off with all of the recruits at their house, where they are given a note that they will be going on a boat, where they will be fishing.  So, they all dress up in these ridiculous outfits that match their respective team color.  The whole outfit was either red or blue, and on top of that, they had matching toboggans!  The blue team looked like smurfs!

So, none of these people seem to have ever gone fishing before in their lives, which really should come as no surprise.  But, from what is shown, they all did pretty nicely and caught some fish.  Some of them were even kissing their fish!  Chet seemed a bit worried about what they would have to cook/make/do with the fish.  Then Bobby and Anne show up and say that this week, the recruits will be learning how to properly use all of the different knives and that they will also be learning different knife cuts.
Stephen's horrific attempt at cutting
an avocado during Survivor: Tocantins

Then, they return back to the kitchen and are taught how to make some simple fish dishes.  They were all pretty amazed by how to cut an avocado.  (Side note:  Thank God, they didn’t show them Stephen from Survivor: Tocantins’ technique!  See attached GIF)  They are then given time to recreate the dish that they were taught, which included fileting a fish and chopping vegetables mostly.  We learn that Chet has a fear of knives and that many others take little to zero caution when using knives, which almost results in the severing of many fingers!

Alex “Primetime 99” Stein finishes with plenty of time left for the skill drill challenge.  Bobby tells him that finishing the fastest doesn’t always have the best result, but Alex seems pretty unfazed by it.   At the end of the challenge, and before the tasting, Dr. Bob discovers that at some point during the challenge, he cut his finger so there was blood near his dish.    Everyone on the red team pretty much oversalted their fish which bothered Anne.  The blue team seemed to have done better with the challenge.  Alex got pretty good remarks from Bobby, but Bobby told him to slow down to avoid making small (or sometimes, big) mistakes.  Carla, who loves Bobby, made her fish in the shape of a heart to show her love for him!  Comedy gold!  Bobby tells her that her fish was perfectly cooked and I thought she was nearly going to pass out!  The winner of the skill drill for the blue team is Alina and the worst is Big Mike.  The winner of the skill drill for the red team is Crystal and the worst is Dr. Bob.

Then, it’s time for the boot camp portion of the episode.  Michael thinks that, after the challenge the day before, they’ll be hunting down bison and cooking them on a campfire!  This is why he is one of my favorites!  We find out that they’ll be working with fresh chicken.  This could pose a problem for Aadip because he is a vegetarian so, he doesn’t “eat chicken, is friends with the chicken, is cool with chickens.”  Each team is taught how to make a dish and then the recruits are given 60 minutes to recreate those dishes.

Recruit Chet and his mentor Bobby Flay
When they get to their work stations and uncover their platters, they find that they have been given whole fresh chickens, head and feet included!  The looks of horror on their faces cannot be matched!  Michael is doing well at cutting his chicken, while most of the others fail and butcher their chickens into oblivion.  Anne seems to be a little tired of Dr. Bob and claims that he is not taking the competition seriously because he is following none of the direction that he was given before the challenge.

Then time is up and it’s time for the tasting.  Up first is Bobby’s team, the blue team.  As always, Chet’s design skills come to great use and his plate looks AMAZING!  Bobby says, though, that Chet used too much alcohol in his dish and that he “could get drunk off of it.”  Carla’s dish is missing a lot of chicken because she cut it so poorly and Bobby says that her dish needed more flavoring and fell flat.  Big Mike’s chicken is undercooked and cannot be eaten.  That could get him in a lot of trouble.  Alina’s chicken looks really great as well and receives good comments.  Alex did alright, but they barely showed much of his judging.  We just saw his comments about how he liked this challenge because the food was how he liked his women.  (Forgive me, I don’t remember the exact word that he used, but it was funny.)

Recruit Rasheeda and mentor Anne Burrell
Then, it’s time for Anne’s team, the red team, to have their tasting.  Michael didn’t season his chicken enough.  Sue did really well.  (Side note:  I have no clue who this Sue is!  I don’t think I’ve ever seen her before this very moment!  WHERE did she come from?!)  Aadip had never cooked a chicken before and didn’t receive the best comments about his dish.  Crystal did alright, but I thought her dish looked bad.  Rasheeda, the one who is here to learn how to cook to find love, didn’t do well either on the dish as a whole, but her chicken tasted alright and I think Anne sees potential in her.  Dr. Bob is up last and his chicken looks like it has been murdered!  He didn’t do well at recreating the dish that Anne showed them how to make and claims that he hasn’t had the right amount of focus.

Dr. Bob is the third eliminated from
the competition!
Overall winner on the blue team this week was Alina.  It was a great week for her!  She was in the bottom two last week!  Amazing turn-around!  The best on the red team was Sue!  (WHO ARE YOU!!!!!!!) They both win a $1,000 gift card to Kohl’s.  The bottom two for the blue team are Carla and Big Mike.  The bottom two for the red team are Rasheeda and Dr. Bob.  The person leaving on the red team is Dr. Bob.  I think Anne wasn’t a very big fan of him and found him too hard to teach.  Dr. Bob is proud of himself for how he did though.  The person leaving on the blue team is Big Mike.  Yay!  I wasn’t quite ready for Carla and her hilarious lines to leave.  Bobby didn’t think that Big Mike was catching on to the teaching like everyone else was, and saw that Mike was even cutting himself on accident during the challenge.  Well, that’s all until next time!

Big Mike becomes the fourth eliminated
from the competition!
Here are some memorable quotes from this episode:
