Throwback Saturday: Room Raiders

Anyone remember a show called ‘Room Raiders’?  If you answered “no,” then you must have been living under a rock for most of the 2000’s!  If you answered “yes,” then boy, do I have a surprise for you!  Well, it’s a surprise if a throwback post celebrating the show counts for one!

Room Raiders was an MTV reality-television show of sorts that started back in 2003.  The show would take three “unsuspecting” people from their houses (usually while they were sleeping) and kidnap them, throw them into a pedo van, and then drive away.  Then one person would go through these three people’s rooms to find out more about them.  They’d have a special kit with gloves, black light, etc. to further investigate the rooms.  After each room, they would point out the things that they liked and didn’t like about the room.  It’s important to note that during the room raid, the three people in the van would be watching on a TV, which usually ended up with the three people making fun of each other for the stuff found in their rooms.  After all three rooms had been raided, the person would pick which one of the three that she/he wanted to go on a date with.  (Note: I am about 99% sure that none of these pairings ever ended up dating, but don’t quote me on that!)

This show even went as far as having celebrities come on and raid rooms.  Celebrity guests included Jessica Simpson, Nick Lachey, Zac Efron (pre-HSM days), Omarion, Maroon 5, and Ciara to name a few.  Other versions of the show included themes like:  Room Raiders Texas, Miami, Arizona, California, Florida, Twins, Best Friends, Hidden Beauty, and the list keeps going!  (Note: An interesting fact to know is that the premiere episode of Room Raiders was filmed at Tulane University!  It can be assumed that (Big Brother 14 winner) Ian Terry only chose to go to Tulane because it was featured on RR!  But, like I said before, don’t quote me on that!)
